ARISE: The SubGenius Video
ARISE!, The SubGenius Movie. ARISE! was directed by Cordt Holland and
Rev. Ivan Stang, written by Stang, narrated by Dr. Hal Robins; it was
first released in 1988. New artwork, some new live footage and numerous
computer animation sequences were added in 2005. ARISE! tells the story
of Slack master and Sex God J. R. "Bob" Dobbs, the Texas preacher who
discovered the Conspiracy and an invasion by UFOs, and founded The
Church of the SubGenius -- an adults-only religion for mutants, misfits,
weirdos.
Chess For CCTV Operators
“Chess For CCTV Operators” is a performance for which surveilled urban
spaces are the stage. For their urban hack !Mediengruppe BITNIK fitted a
portable suitcase with a video transmitter, an antenna and a chess
computer. Equipped with this suitcase they went, during the three day
intervention in the city, in search of security camera signals to take
over and camera operators to challenge to a game of chess. The take-over
made the surveillance camera image on the operators screen suddenly
disappear showing instead a chess board and the text “Will you play
chess with me? – You are white, I am black”, and stating a telephone
number for communication. Surveillance systems work one-directionally;
they do not fulfil any communicative purpose.

Music Labels Won’t Share Pirate Bay Loot With Artists
Earlier this year the sentences against the Pirate Bay defendants were made final. Aside from prison sentences, they will have to pay damages to the entertainment industries, including €550,000 to several major music labels. The court awarded the damages to compensate artists and rightsholders for their losses. However, it now turns out that artists won’t see a penny of the money, as the labels have allocated it to IFPI to fund new anti-piracy campaigns.

My Chuck Close problem - Scott Blake
When one of the world’s richest living artists orders you to stop making art, you do it. Or do you? That is what Chuck Close has done to me. In response, I have developed a 100-year plan that will allow my digital art to outlive any threats of legal action.
I started working on my Chuck Close Filter in September of 2001. The idea came to me the month prior, when I flew to Los Angeles for the Adobe Design Achievement Awards. The creators of Photoshop gave me first place in the Creative Illustration category for my “Barcode Jesus” portrait. I felt that my creative efforts had finally been validated, even though most people still considered computer art to be a lesser medium. One person in particular, an artist whom I really admired, seemed to have a big problem with computers as vehicles for art. He referred to them as “labor-saving devices.” This was Chuck Close.

Cloned Horses Can Now Compete in the Olympics
Reversing an earlier ban, the international governing body for equestrian sports has decided that cloned horses can compete alongside their traditionally bred counterparts.
"The FEI will not forbid participation of clones or their progenies in FEI competitions," the Federation Equestre Internationale said after its June meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland, according to The Chronicle of the Horse. "The FEI will continue to monitor further research, especially with regard to equine welfare.” HERE

Auto Italia LIVE: Double Dip Concession
Auto Italia LIVE: Double Dip Concession is an artist-run Live TV show performed before a studio audience and broadcast over the internet. Working in collaboration with Auto Italia, artists developed new work for this one-off episode which engages directly with the format of live television. This episode uses the techniques, characters and editing of live television to explore our interaction with the flow of images that invade our lives.
Exploring the individual relationship that the audience has with broadcast, Auto Italia LIVE consider the possibility for a personal and autobiographical tone to be delivered within a context which alienates those present on the screen from accurate self-representation.
The manufactured space created by the set is the backdrop for actions, statements and performances which are commonplace in live TV production but are rarely broadcast to the viewers. This project is engaging directly in contemporary broadcast culture as a space for new work and how physical communities use the Internet to distribute ideas. It aims to be a proposal for how artists can produce live broadcast work in collaboration and act as a unique place for artists to create their collective context and distribute their work.
