Open letter to artist Barbara Kruger
Criticism is raining down on Danske Bank, one of the largest financial institutions in Northern Europe, for their latest marketing campaign ‘A new normal demands New Standards’. How and why this campaign ever saw the light of day is a big question for people in Denmark. For some, the ‘why’ overshadows the ‘how’, which for us has become the most pressing question in these past few weeks.
Danske Bank called on the advertising agency Mensch and artist-photographer Peter Funch, co-owner of Gallery V1 to produce the campaign. The gallery is celebrating its 10 year anniversary and is presenting, among others, famed artist and political activist Barbara Kruger, whose work has become emblematic with a practice of institutional critique and political awareness in a world where machinations, as she would call it, have lulled us to sleep with consumerism and false beliefs.
Barbara Kruger has felt the embrace of the mainstream she calls out, and she would probably claim that there is no out, other than what you carve, with the very same weapons used by the market.
The advertising industry has always had an especially acute sense for the latest, greatest and hottest in culture when it comes to appropriating its iconography for marketing. It is a means to an innovational end – namely branding. And it has also become a more or less accepted fact that this also means disarming everything that could serve as a threat to corporate entities.
The latest advertisement from Danske Bank seems to defy the myth that advertisement cannot go too far, and almost becomes a parody. The campaign was released on top of the medias lessened interest in what could rightfully be called the greatest theft ever to have been committed in Denmark, the ‘permanent’ loan amounting to the sum of 4 billion in U.S dollars, to which the bank answered with this hated campaign: that this loan was permanent and would not be repaid. It is ironic that if anything, the billboards and commercials succeed in waking the ever dormant feelings of dissent.

Thomas Hirschorn vs. Dictatorship of Opinion
The best thing T.Hirschhorn ever brought out is his sentence "Energy yes, quality no!". He completely lost overview and he tries at least to be honest. Prove your humor in this take please!

Swampwalls Dark matter & the Lumpen Army of Art
For more than thirty years, a close relation of mine has worked in the shipping and receiving department of a non-unionized factory in Pennsylvania. Early on in his employment, this relative and several of his co-workers spent their work breaks attaching newspaper clippings, snapshots, spent soda cans, industrial debris, trashed food containers and similar bits and pieces to one wall of the plant. After a few years, the accumulated clutter expanded to include the entire wall. They christened this impromptu collage “Swampwall.” The owner of the factory, an aging sole-proprietor in a world of mergers and multinationals, tolerated this workplace diversion until a global corporation bought up the company. Swampwall was swiftly expunged.

Tonight : Gluklya @ Akinci Gallery - Wings of Migrants

AKINCI GALERY and IMES are pleased to invite you to a viewing and a round table discussion of the art project Wings of Migrants. The project is a collaboration between the artist Natalya Pershina-Yakimanskaya ‘Gluklya’ (Factory of Found Clothes, St. Petersburg, Russia) and Olga Sezneva (Institute for Migration and Ethnic Studies, UvA). Wings of Migrants is a video installation which investigates – in a uniquely created setting of cultural encounter – the dynamics of interaction between representatives of Russia’s ethno-national elite and migrants from Central Asia employed in the construction work. As an art form, Russian classical ballet is characterized by the desire for order, beauty and harmony. As a cultural phenomenon, it incorporates the idea of empire, power and discipline. As an institution, it continues to be dominated by ethnic Russians. Construction work, in contradistinction, is perceived as a polluted, disorderly, and undesirable activity. As in many other countries, construction workers are irregular, undocumented migrants, and are received with disrespect and discrimination. In Wings of Migrants the two groups meet and collaborate in the creation of a dance performance. How does this encounter unfold and what happens as its result? What do the participants learn from each other, what do they reject, and how do they change as they dance together? How can the arts and artists intervene in social problems and political reality?
The project starts from the dream to organize the “Theatre of migrants” in St-Petersburg . Imagine if there can happened ? Monprints and graphics there is a continuation of the research about the social change happened in Russia with the migrants appearance .The installation consists from the : 3 videos , 4 whatecolours, 3 dresses , 10 monoprints and the wall with death migrants statistic ,written by hand .It is the collaborative work . All this done with somebody ,that s why it s called Factory of Found project . I am trying to work as a small institution.))

Meet Justin, a 9-Year-Old Abstract Expressionist Painter From Indiana Who is Also a Horse
Adonna Combs- As an artist and equestrian, I saw the creative possibilities that Justin could offer with his inquisitiveness. He is a horse who has his nose in everything, I “harnessed” his creative energy through painting. He loves to use his big lips to move or pick up objects. I thought teaching him to paint would keep him interested and out of trouble. As it turns out, he enjoys “playing” with the brushes and making brush strokes; sometimes he wiggles his lip in the paint on the paper. The abstract painting process is collaboration between us. I choose the colors and brushes and he spontaneously paints them to the paper or canvas. Each painting is unique and expresses Justin's equine energy. HERE

La mia cura Open Source
Rome, September 10th 2012
I have a brain cancer.
Yesterday I went to get my digital medical records: I have to show them to many doctors.
Sadly they were in a closed, proprietary format and, thus, I could not open them using my computer, or send them in this format to all the people who could have saved my life.
I cracked them. clickkk HERE
