Van een andere orde

A small documentary about the founders of Galerie Aorta and club RoXY in the 80's. Maybe some inspiration for our generation.

  1. There might be things our generation can learn from the old.The most important thing we need to learn again is maybe how to make oneself heard and to learn how to risk something not only as individuals but also as a collective in a world where you rather learn to mistrust your own intuition, because you have so many influences coming from the outside world.
But here is also a big difference to the older times. Lets call the opposition here "The competitor". The competitor in this case is the city of amsterdam, the laws & the police the high prices that make us not having an affordable place to stay... what happens (in our times) if we have to deal with an abstract and invisible competitor? - invisible among other reasons, because people only compete with each other by snippets of their personalities, they do not commit themselves any longer to a specific group in our society. diversity everywhere is competing with specimens of distinct groups, classes and backgrounds. it also creates victims of society. we live inna time where a single person does not know to a 100% to which social group he or she is belonging to.The competitor to education, employment, housing, social security, even to intimate affection and social recognition is ultimately only a statistically noticeable size, a conglomerate of similar characteristics. Competitors to some extent be digitized - they do not occur more than "analog" tense forms (analog - meaning real people you meet in your daily life), not more than social groups, rather in statistical groups. The guilty are always addressed but less identifiable. The opponent is invisible.
